Nearly 15 million Americans each year are affected by a serious illness called depression.

It is a disease.

It's not a reflection on the personal attributes of the patient despite it being a mental illness. Depression can strike every person. It has no reasoning for its path. Executives to janitors can be affected. Race or religion aren't important. The fact that you are suffering from this disease does not mean that you are less a human being.

Mental illness comes with stereotypes, ignore them. Without treatment it will get worse. Pretending nothing is wrong won't chase away this problem. This medical condition will progress until it takes over your whole life unless treated.

Many things contribute to depression. It's not a matter of a day or two of confusion or sadness, this disease is much more. Months or even years are the time frame in which depression plays. Suicide often results from depression. Early stages involve feelings of regret. The pleasure from favorite activities might disappear.

It's possible to experience loneliness and despair. It could lead to feelings of failure and a sense of the future only getting worse. Your entire personality can change as time passes. You will feel the affects at work, at school and at home. Anxiety grows and sleep patterns change.

As previously stated there are many factors that lead to depression. A major contributer is stress. Stress caused by the loss of a loved one or from a serious illness that you have been diagnosed with. It can be passed on genetically. Suffering abuse can bring on stress. Even something as simple as reading the financial news can create it. Modern life is filled with stress.

This condition can be serious. The good news is that there is help if you choose to seek it. Only about one third of the 15 million people who have depression will seek treatment according to data. A loved one or you have to look for the help.

The most common form of treatment for depression is 'talk therapy' and 'anti-depressants' such as Prozac.

But medications often have side effects, including causing more depression, as well as they can be expensive as can a psychiatrist or psychologist. There are natural medications available that contain the ingredient 'hyperforin' that are just as effective as the prescribed anti-depressants. There is also assistance for this terrible illness in the form of support groups.

Anyone who wants help with depression can find it.

So, what causes depression?

Let there be no doubt that depression is a serious mental illness that requires months and sometimes years of treatment on the path to a cure. Every year, millions of Americans feel the symptoms of depression. The situation becomes worse because only one third of those who suffer depression ever get treated.

Because depression is considered a mental affliction,
many sufferers shy away from seeking help from a doctor. Rather than being stereotyped, people would rather try to deal with the problem themselves. Depression is more common- place than you might think and it will not go away on its own.

So, what causes depression? There are many factors to consider, so the answer isn't simple.

Depression can be a long story because of many issues.
Here are a few of the parts of depression. A chemical imbalance is widely considered to be the main cause for depression. This may be the case, but what causes that imbalance? Generally the causes are internal – biological issues, genetic disposition, mental problems – but there are external causes as well. In many cases the underlying cause is never identified.

If diagnosis of another serious medical condition happens, sometimes people become depressed.

The loss of a loved one or treasured possession can have a tremendous impact resulting in depression. Long periods of emotional, sexual or other physical abuses can result in depression. Substance abuse, either drug or alcohol, can also cause depression. People's mental states are fragile. If exposed to the wrong pressures, depression can result.

Depression is often passed along in the DNA. Those afflicted have a family history of the disease . Many prescription drugs can cause depression. Studies and tests show a casual relation between many high blood pressure medications and depression.

One of the major causes of depression is stress. Stress can derive from many different areas in our life.

Even positive events such as a marriage, a new baby or winning an award can cause stress. The unknown is often the root cause of this stress, whether it be positive or negative. When friends or loved ones come into conflict with an individual – a co-worker or loved one – the result is stress.

Just trying to make ends meet is stressful for some people. Doctors first look for cause when seeking a treatment for depression. If you or someone you love suffers from depression-please seek medical assistance.

Medical professionals recognize the real mental problem of depression.

It's often a matter of years, or at least months, to control or cure it. Millions of Americans across the United States are affected by depression each and every year.

Only about a third of them will seek treatment, and that makes it worse. Many Americans don't want to be considered crazy, so because depression is considered a mental affliction they avoid diagnosis. They would rather deal with the problem on their own than risk being stereotyped should they seek assistance.

Depression doesn't just stop, and it's a lot more common than people think.

What are the causes for depression? There are many factors to consider, so the answer isn't simple. The list is quite long. Lets examine some of the most notorious. Brain chemicals being out of proportion contributes strongly to depression. But what causes the imbalance? The causes can be genetic, mental or even come from the environment.

Doctors sometimes don't find the root cause, which is true for many patients. If diagnosis of another serious medical condition happens, sometimes people become depressed.

Depression can also stem from the emotional pain when a close person dies.

Everyone knows such losses are serious. Some depression is brought on after years of physical, emotional or sexual abuse. When people abuse drugs and/or alcohol the result is often depression. The mental state of a human can be very fragile depending on their environment and the life events that they have been exposed too.

Depression is often passed along in the DNA. A strong correlation between family history of depression and current depression has been found . Many prescription drugs can cause depression. It has been clinically proven that some high blood pressure medication can cause depression.

Depression can result from stress. In our lives many events and elements can cause stress. It's not well known, but it's true, that stress can result from the pressures associated with positive events such as a new, high paying job. The unknown is often the root cause of this stress, whether it be positive or negative.

Arguments with family members, disputes with business clients can both cause stress. Some people have a low threshold for stress. They're affected by events and activities that to others seem to not be stressful. Doctors first look for cause when seeking a treatment for depression.

If you or someone you love suffers from depression-please seek medical assistance.

Depression Is A Serious Mental Illness,

Let there be no doubt that depression is a serious mental illness that requires months and sometimes years of treatment on the path to a cure.

Millions of Americans across the United States are affected by depression each and every year.  To make things worse it is estimated that only a third of those who suffer the disease will ever seek treatment.  Depression has always been classified as a mental affliction.
Therefore, many Americans choose not to be placed into that category.
They would rather deal with the problem on their own than risk being stereotyped should they seek assistance.
Depression is more common- place than you might think and it will not go away on its own.

So, what causes depression?

The answer can get very complicated because you have to take many factors into consideration.  There are so many things factored into the cause of this disease.

Lets examine some of the most notorious.

Many medical professionals believe that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.
This may be the case, but what causes that imbalance?

Typically the causes stem from:

  • biological,
  • genetic,
  • physical,
  • mental and
  • environmental implications.
There are those inflicted that never really determine what spurned their depression.  Many become depressed when they are diagnosed with a very serious medical condition.
This is especially the case if the diagnosis presents the possibility of death or impairment.

Another cause of depression
can be the emotional pain felt after losing a loved one.
In many cases the loss can be very traumatic.

Some depression is brought on after years of

  • physical,
  • emotional or
  • sexual abuse.

In addition, many cases of depression are given birth by substance abuse, rather it be drugs or alcohol.

The mental state of a human can be very fragile depending on their environment and the life events that they have been exposed too.  In many cases depression is passed on genetically.  Those afflicted have a family history of the disease.  There are even some prescribed medications that can bring on depression.

It has been clinically proven that some high blood pressure medication can cause depression.

One of the major causes of depression is stress.

Stress can derive from many different areas in our life.  Some of that stress can even be related to positive events in our lives such as

  • promotions,
  • graduation or
  • moving into a new house.

People tend to stress when they face the unknown, like a

  • new job or
  • new financial obligations.

In addition, many are stressed from personal conflicts with their loved ones, associates in employment or friends.

There are a great number of people who are stressed from simply trying to perform their jobs to satisfaction and trying to support their families from week to week.
By determining the cause, medical professionals have a much better chance of administering a treatment.

If you or someone you love suffers from depression-please seek medical assistance.
